State-Of-The-Art UAS Pilot Training Facilities

The Aims UAS labs are housed at the Gateway Building on Windsor Campus. These state-of-the-art facilities are where students enrolled in the Aims Unmanned Aircraft Systems Sciences degree program learn to build, repair and fly drones.

The UAS facilities contain the following work and storage spaces:

  • UAS Forge
  • UAS Fab Lab
  • UAS Design Lab
  • UAS Flight Lab
  • UAS Storage
  • UAS Flightline

UAS Forge

Room 109B

The forge is a fabrication workspace with fabrication equipment, 3D printers, a CNC router and a laser cutter.

UAS Fabrication Lab

Room 109

The fab lab is used for advanced fabrication processes in UAS engineering and design classes. The lab is also used for mold creation, 3D printing drone parts, and building and maintaining drones.

UAS Design Lab

Room 111

The design lab is a classroom space with high-powered data stations where students work on post-production video editing, aerial data analysis, soldering, and Pix 4D processing. The design lab is a designated “clean room” for multi-rotor drone construction outside of the fabrication spaces.

UAS Flight Lab

Room 105

The flight lab is a classroom for UAS students that offers a quiet space for focus and ground training instruction, including pre-flight for aircraft, briefings, debriefings, meeting breakouts and maintenance.

UAS Storage

Room 109A

The UAS storage room houses the drone fleet at Aims, where more than 35 aircraft are housed in a clean, secure and climate-controlled area. Students can also charge aircraft for flight here.

UAS Flight Line

Outdoors Near Sim City on Windsor Campus

Located outdoors near Sim City next to the Gateway Building, this 5,400 square-foot drone launch and recovery site (LRS) is where Aims UAS students conduct flights.
