Educational Background
2010 - AA, Liberal Arts, Aims Community College
2012 - BS, Nursing, University of Northern Colorado
Professional Background
Shortly after graduating high school in 2007, Sera began attending Aims as a student and working as an Aims student employee. After finishing her AA degree and nursing prereqs at Aims, Sera applied and was accepted into UNC’s nursing program. While her passion for helping people did not change, her career interests changed. When she graduated in 2012 with her bachelor of science in nursing from UNC and obtained her RN license, she realized her true passion resided within higher education and serving people in a different capacity outside of the healthcare field. Sera returned to Aims in 2012 as a part-time employee in the Admissions & Records department and then transitioned into a full-time academic advising position in 2013.
Most of Sera’s higher education experience has been in academic advising and working directly with students. Between her experience as an Aims student, and working directly with Aims students, Sera is thrilled to be part of the HS2A program to continue student-centered work. She is excited to create community partnerships with the high schools and build bridges for high school students looking to continue their education at Aims. Aims has been part of Sera’s academic journey from the beginning, and she finds it a blessing to continue to share all Aims has to offer with others.
Personal Interests
Most of Sera’s time is spent with her husband, two middle school-aged kids, and their corgi and Goldendoodle. You can often find Sera playing rec soccer with her husband, volunteering in her kids’ middle school program at their church, helping her husband manage his landscaping business, raising a small flock of backyard chickens with her daughter, or discussing a good book with her son. Sera is a “foodie” and loves all the events at Aims that incorporate food.
