Aims 3D Concrete Printing Program Launches First Hands-on Courses

Last year, Aims partnered with Alquist 3D, an innovative 3D concrete printing and construction company, to incorporate its technology into a new curriculum and train the workforce. Alquist 3D moved its headquarters to Greeley in the fall of 2023.
The first hands-on courses are a unique opportunity to learn from industry experts. The classes are designed as workshops held over two weekends and feature expert instruction and experiential learning using 3D concrete printing technology. The sessions are held at the Applied Technology and Trades Center on the Aims Greeley Campus.

Aims is offering the 3D Concrete Printing Coding & Design course March 29-30. This course covers the fundamentals of 3D concrete printing, from digital design to robotic execution. Students get practical experience in print planning and execution for successful 3D printing applications.
The 3D Concrete Printing Material Science course takes place April 5-6. In this course, students gain hands-on experience in 3D concrete printing with a focus on equipment, material preparation, and site setup. Participants learn to assemble and operate mixing and print head systems, optimize workflows, and troubleshoot processes in a real-world construction environment.
Aims Chair and Instructor of Industrial Technologies and Energy Studies Dave Sordi is teaching these classes. “It’s exciting because it’s a relatively new technology, and Alquist is one of the leaders in leveraging it,” he said.
“We get to use their expertise and support to teach students who can use it to gain employment as the industry takes off.”
Students must first complete an online 25-hour certificate course before taking the hands-on sessions. This prerequisite provides essential knowledge about 3D printing technology for construction, best practices, safety and more. The cost of the online class is $250. The next session begins March 3.
Aims 3D concrete printing courses are a first step in jumping into the rapidly expanding field of 3D-printed homes and infrastructure. This emerging construction method can be more cost-effective, sustainable and less energy-intensive. Completing the curriculum helps participants gain skills necessary for positions in the industry.
