What do mad science, dinosaurs and video game coding have in common? They’re all new classes being offered during College for Kids this summer at Aims Community College.

College for Kids will offer both in-person and remote learning opportunities on Greeley, Fort Lupton, Windsor and Loveland campuses. Registration opens at 8 a.m. on March 29 at the College for Kids Registration Page.

The four-day program gives students the opportunity to “go to college” and is a unique and enriching program for learners 9-15 years. Youth ages 13-15 years can participate in the junior leaders program, assisting instructors in the classroom while also taking their own courses.

“It’s a really fun, out-of-the-box program and it’s highly interactive, just like going to college on our campuses,” explains Katherine Jacobs, lifelong learning program coordinator at Aims. “Students learn lifelong skills while also making new friends.”

Participants choose two classes to take during their College for Kids experience, with junior leaders being required to participate in training the Friday before their program begins.

Tuition is $75 for in-person instruction and $25 for the remote learning program. This cost includes two classes and supplies for the week, as well as food for the in-person program. Classes start at 9 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m., running Monday through Thursday.

While new classes have been added to the College for Kids catalog, popular favorites are making a return, too, including wilderness survival, photography, magic and Hawaiian Island Creations (also known as the class for making erupting volcanoes).

“We’re so glad to bring back College for Kids this year,” Jacobs said. “Being able to offer in-person and remote learning is ideal for caretakers who are working from home or who remain concerned about COVID-19.”
