Are you looking for a career that offers a hands-on, immersive experience? Do you dream of helping to keep the aviation industry in motion? You can get the training you need at Aims Community College in the exciting new Aircraft Maintenance Technician Associate Degree Program.

Aircraft maintenance technicians inspect, repair, and provide maintenance service for airplanes, commercial airliners and helicopters of all sizes. Whether you want to work in small, general aviation, or with large commercial jet aircraft, this program prepares you for careers at major airlines, manufacturers, repair stations, structural repair facilities and other aviation organizations.

Courses combine lectures and hands-on training using current equipment and machinery in state-of-the-art facilities.

To succeed in this career, you need to be comfortable with:

  • Working in a hangar and outside with up to 25% scheduled time traveling.
  • Exposure to noise and hazards associated with aircraft maintenance.
  • Standing, walking, sitting, bending and stooping for extended periods.
  • Lifting up to 75 pounds and using a ladder and lift.

This training teaches the foundations that set you up to work successfully in all areas of the industry including:

  • General Aviation
  • Business Jets
  • Commercial Aviation
  • Maintenance, Repair and Overhauls (MROs)
  • Manufacturing

You’ll learn to approach each system or component with a clear understanding of how it is intended to operate and function and the effects of environmental deterioration, accidental damage and fatigue damage from use. Industry-standard techniques guide you in fault isolation, troubleshooting and repair.

Employment Outlook

With a workforce retiring faster than new mechanics can be trained in a steady-growth industry, the need for skilled technicians is urgent. This hands-on training program provides an in-depth education in aviation mechanics and systems in preparation for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 147 A&P license exam for airframes and powerplants.

State-of-the-Art Training Facilities

The new 56,000-square-foot Aircraft Maintenance Training Center at Aims will open in tandem with the new Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic program. The cutting-edge aircraft mechanic school includes classrooms, labs and hangars where students will get hands-on training and practice troubleshooting, repairing and performing maintenance on aircraft.

Training for Success

This immersive program prepares you to:

  • Research, troubleshoot, and repair aircraft and components.
  • Correctly read, understand, and apply FAA regulations and documentation.
  • Complete a series of FAA-written national certification exams.
  • Complete an end-of-program FAA oral and practical exam administered by an FAA Designated Mechanic Examiner (D.M.E.) for national certification.
