Health and Human PerformanceCertificates

Aims offers three health and exercise certificates. 

You can earn either the Health and Fitness certificate or the Exercise Specialist certificate separately or complete both certificates to earn the comprehensive Health and Exercise Specialist certificate. 

Health and Fitness Certificate

Explore the six components of wellness while learning how nutrition, exercise, substance abuse, stress management and more can affect the human body. Students will also be introduced to the discipline of kinesiology, learn how to care for athletic injuries and become First Aid and CPR certified.

Focuses on techniques in prevention, care and basic rehabilitation of athletic injury. Course is not repeatable for credit.

Introduces basic principles of nutrition with emphasis on personal nutrition. This course focuses on macro and micro nutrients and their effects on the functions of the human body. Special emphasis is placed on the application of wellness, disease, and lifespan as it pertains to nutrition. Course is not repeatable for credit.

Explores the six components of wellness: physical, social, intellectual, spiritual, emotional, and occupational. Topics include health risks, wellness behaviors, and personal behavior change in the areas of nutrition; exercise; substance abuse; stress management; cardiovascular and cancer risk factors; the aging process; and violence, death, and dying in our society. Provides tools to complete self-assessments and develop a wellness program for a healthier lifestyle across a lifespan. Course is not repeatable for credit.

Introduces the discipline of kinesiology, including the effects of physical activity and exercise on the human physiology and human experience. The course also explores career options including expectations of professionals in the field. Course is not repeatable for credit.

Exercise Specialist Certificate

Study the anatomical basis of human movement in addition to practicing various weight training techniques. Students will learn to develop and implement exercise programs while preparing for a nationally recognized personal training certification.

Provides knowledge and skills to prepare for a nationally recognized personal training certification. The course includes the development and implementation of exercise programs for healthy populations, and for individuals with medical clearance to exercise. Course is not repeatable for credit.

Offers guided instruction and independent practice in weight training for men and women. Students practice various weight training techniques in accordance with their abilities. Emphasizes physiological considerations, equipment orientation, correct lifting techniques, program design, and nutrition. Course is repeatable for credit with no limitations.

Health and Exercise Specialist Certificate

This comprehensive certificate is earned after a student earns both the Health and Fitness certificate and Exercise Specialist certificate. Students will be trained in First Aid and CPR and will also be eligible to sit for a national personal training exam, being recognized as Certified Personal Trainer if passed. This certificate will prepare students for a variety of jobs in the health and wellness field.
