Certificates are an alternative to a degree program that allow you to explore a subject or build new career skills. Aims offers 12 automotive certificate programs that cover various automotive service skills. These certificates can also serve as a starting point to begin an automotive repair degree program at Aims.

Automotive Service Technician Certificate

This certificate program teaches you all of the core skills needed to become an automotive service technician from the associate of applied science in automotive technology degree program, minus the general education requirements. Learn essential automotive systems and how to repair them, including transmissions, brakes, steering and electrical.

Brakes Certificate

Learn the basics of how automobile brakes work and how to repair them and apply your skills in an auto shop lab course. Study auto shop safety, disc and drum friction assemblies, basic hydraulic braking systems, anti-lock braking systems (ABS) and traction control systems.

Advanced Brakes Certificate

This automotive certificate program includes all of the courses from the Brakes Certificate, with an additional course that goes into greater depth about power braking systems. Learn auto shop safety, disc and drum friction assemblies, basic hydraulic braking systems, anti-lock braking systems (ABS), traction control and power assist units.

AYES Certificate

Prepare for work as an automotive technician with the AYES certificate. The courses and internship will provide students with the the necessary skills to succeed in entry-level tech positions in the automotive industry.

Electrical Certificate

Learn about automotive electrical systems and how to troubleshoot and repair them, along with a lab course to apply your skills. Gain skills in basic auto electricity, electrical safety systems, and starting and charging systems.

Advanced Electrical Certificate

This automotive certificate program includes all of the courses from the Electrical Certificate, with an additional class on diesel electrical systems. Gain skills in basic auto electricity, electrical safety systems, and starting and charging systems for standard and diesel automobiles.

Automatic Transmission Certificate

Study how automatic transmissions and transaxles work and how to repair them. Gain hands-on skills in auto shop safety, hydraulics, electronics, power flow, transmission and transaxle removal and replacement and more.

Manual Transmission and Drive Trains Certificate

This automotive technology certificate program covers manual transmission systems and repair. Study manual drivetrains and axle shafts, transaxles and clutches and apply what you learn in an auto shop lab course.

Engine Mechanical Certificate

Learn how automobile engines work and how to repair them with a hands-on lab course in the Aims auto shop. Study cylinder head, valve-train and cooling components, learn how to disassemble and rebuild an engine, and gain skills in engine sealing and repair techniques.

Engine Performance Certificate

In this automotive technology certificate program, you’ll learn how to assess and improve automobile engine performance. Gain skills in general engine diagnosis, emission control systems, computerized engine control systems, fuel injection and exhaust systems, and diagnostic techniques to assess drivability.

Heating & Air Conditioning Certificate

Learn about automotive heating and air conditioning systems and get hands-on lab experience in the auto shop. Gain skills in the diagnosis and service of vehicle heating and air conditioning systems and their components.

Maintenance and Light Repair Certificate

This automotive technology certificate program covers everything you need to know to perform maintenance and light repairs on automobiles. Learn basic automotive systems and how to diagnose and repair them, including brakes, electrical, starting and charging systems, engines, emissions, suspension and steering, drive trains, transmissions and HVAC.

Steering and Suspension Certificate
