  • Create a visual company profile that Aims students can search and view to learn about the company
  • Conduct searches for qualified applicants and view student profiles that outline their work history, academic accolades and extracurricular info
  • New to Handshake? Click here. If you already have a Handshake account, log in and under "Relationships" choose "Schools," then select "More Schools on Handshake," search for Aims Community College and "Request Connection."

Once job announcements are posted to Handshake, Career Services can email job details and flyers to selected faculty and staff to share with students and alumni. Distribution is tailored by industry and degree programs.

You are also welcome to bring promotional items or giveaways (no food, unless individually wrapped). Access to an electrical outlet is not guaranteed.

Career Services Job, Non-Credit Internship, and Volunteer Posting and Recruiting Disclaimer

Career Services has created this job, non-credit internship, and volunteer posting disclaimer to make sure employers understand how our services work and to foster a positive experience for both employers and Aims students and alumni.

It's important to note that the appearance of job, non-credit internship, and volunteer opportunities on our Career Services website, including Handshake, doesn't mean Aims Community College or Career Services is endorsing or recommending them. We provide these resources free of charge to employers and students/alumni who are looking for opportunities.

Remember that all interactions regarding hiring and compensation take place directly between the student/alum and the employer. Career Services does not conduct background checks on applicants or employers, so it's a good idea for both sides to exchange reference information to establish qualifications and fit.

Our priority is to maintain fair and inclusive recruitment practices. Discrimination is not tolerated in hiring or recruiting, for more information see Aims' Non-Discrimination Notice.  Additionally, all job postings must meet certain standards, including providing compensation equal to or above the minimum wage.

Career Services utilizes federal, state, and Aims Community College policies, as well as the National Association of Colleges & Employers (NACE) guidelines and reserves the right to post job and internship opportunities that align with the College's interests and the well-being of our students.

Career Services follows general NACE guidelines in working with third-party agencies (temporary agencies, temp-to-hire agencies, train-to-hire agencies, etc.) and will assist third-party agencies in meeting the following general criteria:

  • Charge no fees to candidates.
  • Reveal the identity of the employer(s) being represented in the posting.
  • Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), release candidate information only to the identified employer. Re-disclosure of candidate information to other employers or entities is not permitted without the explicit written consent of the candidate.
  • Provide a position description for a valid opening.
  • Comply with federal and state Equal Employment Opportunity laws.

Career Services also aligns its practices for approving non-credit internship postings with NACE’s recommendations for what an internship should include:

  • A learning experience with a real-world opportunity to apply the knowledge gained in the classroom. It must not be simply to advance the operations of the employer or replace the work that a regular employee would routinely perform.
  • Clearly defined learned skills and knowledge that are transferable to other employment settings, achieved through the development of learning objectives/goals supportive of the students academic program goals.
  • A defined beginning and end that is mutually agreed upon.
  • A position description with clear responsibilities and required/desired qualifications.
  • Direct supervision by a professional(s) with relevant expertise and educational and/or professional experience who provide productive feedback, guidance, and the resources and equipment necessary to successfully complete the assignment.
  • Meet the FLSA Primary Beneficiary Test (PBT) to determine whether an intern or student is, in fact, an employee under the FLSA.
  • Provide workers’ compensation insurance for all paid interns as required by state law.
  • 1099 contract employees are not considered interns.
  • Unpaid non-credit internships will not be approved for posting on the Student Job Board. Exceptions may be made for organizations with a 501c3 status.

Please note the difference between volunteering and an internship. Volunteering involves offering your time and skills to support a cause or organization without a primary focus on career development, while interning entails gaining practical, career-oriented experiences within a specific field or industry.

Cannabis & Alcohol- Related Employment
In alignment with the Aims Community College policy 534 Drug-Free Workplace and the Drug Free Schools & Communities Act 1989 (DFSCA), which provides: “as condition of receiving funds or any form of financial assistance under any Federal program, an institution of Higher Education must certify that is has adopted and implemented a program to prevent the unlawful possession, use, or distribution of illicit drugs or alcohol by students or employees.” Further, under the DFSCA, institutions of Higher Education must employ “standards of conduct that clearly prohibit, at minimum, the unlawful possession, use, or distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol by students and employees on its property or as part of its activities.”

Commission-Only Employment
Employers and individuals offering employment/entrepreneurial opportunities must pay a base salary equal to or greater than the federal minimum wage (or state, when higher), and comply with federal, state, and local regulations.

Upfront Product Purchases
Employers and individuals offering employment/entrepreneurial opportunities with compensation packages requiring commission only or requiring prospective employees to purchase products or services upfront are not permitted to recruit on campus or attend career fairs.

Pyramid or Multi-Level Employers
Employers/individuals offering employment/entrepreneurial opportunity based on a “pyramid” or “multi-level” networking structure requiring or encouraging the recruitment of others who recruit others and so on to sell products and services will not be permitted to recruit on campus or attend career fairs.

Babysitting or Home Employment
We do not post babysitting jobs or other positions where an employee will work out of someone else’s dwelling (house, apartment, condo, etc). Examples of prohibited at-home positions include: babysitter, au pair, nanny, child caregiver, senior companion, pet-sitter, pet-walker, housekeeping, personal assistant, or yard work).
