This ambitious program is designed to cultivate the skills of nonprofit leaders in Northern Colorado and beyond.

The program launches the first week of September and courses will be available throughout the fall.  Participants can choose from stand-alone courses or earn certificates in:

  • Essentials: nonprofit management, marketing, accounting, sustainable fundraising
  • Leadership: talent development, strategic planning, governance
  • Professional: build the certificate you need to advance your skills

“We want to provide resources to our local nonprofits so they are even more successful and impactful,” said Heather Lelchook, Executive Director of Continuing Education. “The feedback has been positive and encouraging.”

Scholarships are available from the Weld Legacy Foundation and Chevron.  “Through our Weld Legacy Foundation, we are striving to provide the resources to build the capacity of our nonprofit partners,” said Roy Otto, Director of Community Impact with the Weld Trust

Classes offered this fall include:

  • Grant Readiness and Grant Writing Intensive
  • Fundamentals of Nonprofit Management
  • Talent Development and Management
  • Nonprofit Shared Governance and Executive Leadership
  • Nonprofit Leadership Skills for Emerging Leaders
  • Marketing Essentials for Nonprofit Professionals
  • Developing a Successful Board

The academy offered a preview class in the spring and received a positive response. “I have been waiting for a course like this,” said Kodie Rosten, CASA Program Administrator for Life Stories. “With 16 years of experience in nonprofits, I've already gained a wealth of knowledge through this course — insights that have already helped me become a more well-rounded professional and better prepared for future roles in nonprofit management.”

Need for the NLA Program

Aims explored the education and training needs of the nonprofit sector. According to the Colorado Nonprofit Association, 20,000 nonprofit organizations in the state provide jobs to 330,000 people. The nonprofit industry annually has a $40B impact on Colorado’s economy.  In addition, in conversations and research within the nonprofit sector, Aims found the failure rate of nonprofit organizations is high; many don’t last more than five years, and 30 percent close within ten.
