Aims Opportunity Scholarship FAQ

Is everyone who qualifies awarded this scholarship

Scholarships are processed on a first-come, first-served basis and subject to funds availability.

 

Do I have to apply for this scholarship each semester?

Students are only eligible for the Aims Opportunity Scholarship during their first year attending Aims Community College. Whether you are enrolling fall or spring semester, you only need to apply once.

 

Can I apply for this scholarship if I have only been at Aims for one semester?

You may apply with a recent (one academic year or less) final high school transcript showing a cumulative GPA of 3.0, that shows the graduation date and that you are currently enrolled in at least six credits at Aims. Transfer students may apply with the most recent prior college transcript showing an earned cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 and a transfer of at least 12 undergraduate credits into Aims.

 

What are UG credits?

UG credits are undergraduate credits earned for college-level classes with a course number of 100 or above.

 

Do I have to be making good Satisfactory Academic Progress to be eligible for this scholarship?

Your Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) status must be Good, Warning, Probation or ACPLAN (approved appeal) to be eligible for the Aims Opportunity Scholarship in addition to meeting the other criteria.

 

Do I have to be a U.S. citizen to be eligible for the Aims Opportunity Scholarship?

Because the funds for the Aims Opportunity Scholarship are state-based, you must be a U.S. citizen, have a valid Permanent Resident card, or be classified as ASSET tuition classification.

 

Can I apply for this scholarship if I have received the Aims Scholars Scholarship?

Yes, you can receive both the Aims Scholars Scholarship and the Aims Opportunity Scholarship.

 

Why was I only paid a portion of the scholarship amount?

This scholarship is adjusted according to the credit hours enrolled. If enrolled in six credits (half-time), for example, you will receive one-half of the total scholarship award for the semester.

 

Does this scholarship award affect other financial aid?

If you have been awarded financial aid up to your full financial need or cost of attendance or both, then receipt of this or any scholarship might impact other aid you already received. Adjustments are made on a case-by-case basis with student loan reductions as a priority.
